Vision on Mission(VOM) is a local non-governmental organization (NGO) which has been helping to rehabilitate and re-integrate  into society ex-inmates, deportees and youth persons in conflict. Recently, the NGO decided to embark on a much wider mission - to help to increase food security for its staff and the wider community through an innovating initiative which is funded by the Global Environment Facility and implemented by UNDP.  The programme is titled,The Employment for Sustainable Rehabilitation and Re-integration Programme.

To date, over three hundred (300) prisoners have participated in the Sustainable Agriculture and Livelihood Development Project. Several ex-offenders are being trained in sustainable agricultural farming methods, animal husbandry; as well as ex-inmates often times benefit from seasonal employment. Five (5) acres of land was cleared and planted with pumpkin and eggplant. Other crops marked for growth through this mega-agricultural project are: patchoi, cucumber, sweet potatoes, fresh seasoning, chive and chadon beni.

Many of our clients have successfully completed the programmes and have obtained their certificates. VOM Founder Wayne Chance explains his dream is  for VOM “to obtain on-going contracts or agreements from Institutions for provision of organically grown vegetable /fruits and/or meats.”

Chance believes that this initiative will help his clients to engage in sustainable land management through the integration of biodynamic principles and practices.  The plan is to produce organic products through biodynamic farming methods which are tested and proven to be international best practices.
